Before Broadway.com video blogger Nick Adams morphed into rambunctious drag queen Adam in Priscilla Queen of the Desert, Australian actor-turned-Hollywood star Guy Pearce originated the role in the 1994 film that inspired the musical. Pearce, now best known for dramatic roles such as the Duke of Windsor in The King's Speech, attended the musical’s March 20 opening at the Palace Theatre and was eager to see how Priscilla would translate to the stage.
“I’m sure it will be amazing,” Pearce told Broadway.com on the show’s pink carpet. “I’m not really sure what to expect. I think the spirit of what [Priscilla’s original screenwriter and book writer] Stephan Elliott wrote is really what captured everyone’s imagination, so I’m sure that’s what exists onstage.”
So, does Pearce have any advice for Adams as he handles Priscilla’s outrageously flashy costumes? “Don’t wear shoes that are too small and don’t wear G-strings that are too tight.” You hear that, Nick?!
